Those in Europe are also mobilizing in their own way, to rebuild democracy (cf. Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc..: Tools to meet the crisis of democracy? How could we continue on this path (cf. policy as it dies from not being, Michel Rocard, Alain Juppe)?
If Joschka Fisher, Dany Cohn-Bendit, Guy Verhofstadt, and many other prominent political leaders working to advance the alternative project of the United States of Europe (particularly in the group Spinelli : http://www.spinelligroup.eu/fr ), the path is strewn with pitfalls, especially those that now stand in his way those who are responsible within the major institutions of the Union!
